CHELSEA CANCEL VICTORY PARADE AFTER MANCHESTER TERROR ATTACK

Chelseafc players celebrating their 6th title as a club
The recently crowned Premier League champions have released an official statement saying that the club won’t be having their open top bus victory parade in west London.
The parade, which was meant to take place this Sunday, has been cancelled due to the high-security alert in the UK in the aftermath of the bombing at Manchester Arena on Monday.

The official statement read as follows:
Having consulted with the Metropolitan Police, Hammersmith & Fulham Council and other authorities, we know the emergency services would have been as professional as ever, but we would not want in any way to divert important resources by holding an additional, non-ticketed event on the streets of London
The club was hoping to put on a celebration with the league champions trying to make it a league and cup double in Saturday’s FA Cup final against Arsenal.
As a mark of respect, Chelsea players will be wearing black armbands in the Cup final at Wembley and they will also make a donation to a fund supporting the victims of the attack.
Everyone associated with Chelsea Football Club offers our heartfelt condolences to those affected by Monday’s terror attack in Manchester. Our thoughts go out to all the victims, and their families and friends
After the government’s decision to deploy more forces to the streets due the high alert, the club didn’t want to put any extra strain on them by hosting a celebration.

Zimbabwe:President Robert Mugabe

Mugabe's 'undiplomatic angry outbursts against other world leaders killed Zim', says MujuJoice Mujuru

                                 Joice Mujuru
Cape Town – Former Zimbabwean vice president Joice Mujuru has reportedly taken a swipe at her former boss President Robert Mugabe, saying that he was responsible for all the problems currently faced by Zimbabwe.
According to The Standard, Mujuru, who was now the opposition National People's Party (NPP) leader, said that Mugabe's "undiplomatic angry outbursts against other world leaders", had resulted in the southern African country being isolated from the rest of the world.
Mujuru said this during a campaign rally in Gutu over the weekend.
Zimbabwe was set to hold its presidential elections in 2018.
"We have leadership bankruptcy in Zimbabwe. This is the biggest problem in Zimbabwe… The words that you speak will make your neighbours want to come and build with you but if they hear that the words that you say are not for progress they will leave you. They will leave you to where we are now as a country, to where Mugabe and his party Zanu-PF have taken us to," Mujuru was quoted as saying.
Mugabe, 93, has on several occasions blasted the West, accusing its leaders of seeking to provoke "illegal regime change" by crippling his country economically.
The EU imposed sanction on Mugabe more than a decade ago in protest against rights abuses and flawed democratic processes.
The nonagenarian has led Zimbabwe since 1980 when the country attained its independence from Britain.
New Zimbabwe.com report said that Mujuru also distanced herself from the past atrocities, which she claimed were committed by Mugabe's government and the ruling Zanu-PF that she was once part of.
Mujuru was kicked out of the ruling party after Mugabe's wife Grace, launched a campaign against her, accusing her of instigating factional fighting and plotting to topple the veteran leader.
Mujuru, however, denied the charges.

Mugabe's daughter, priest, appointed to censorship board

Harare - President Robert Mugabe’s only daughter Bona has been appointed to the country’s Censorship Board, which determines which parts of steamy films the people of Zimbabwe can watch and which they can’t.
To help her in this task is Mugabe’s longstanding friend and confidante, Father Fidelis Mukonori, who is a Roman Catholic priest, and former education minister Aeneas Chigwedere, who was sued by his son two years ago for allegedly practising witchcraft and “possessing goblins”.
Another well-known name on the board is Charity Charamba, the police spokesperson.
Home Affairs Minister Ignatius Chombo said while Zimbabwe’s constitution guaranteed freedom of expression, the Censorship Act gave powers to the board “to ensure that these freedoms are reasonably limited so that they do not infringe on other people’s rights”.
“In today’s environment where there is heightened scrutiny by members of the public, internet and social media use, you are going to be faced by many challenges in administering the act,” Chombo said, in quotes carried by the official Herald.
The new board will hold office for five years. Chigwedere, the new chairperson, will replace Heyi Malaba who is 96. Malaba’s board famously demanded heavy editing of Fifty Shades of Grey, the movie based on the EL James novel. Some movie theatres refused to screen the edited version.
Zimbabwe’s pole dancers, known for their risqué performances, are also monitored by the board. Probably the most famous of them, Bev Sibanda, was fined $100 three years ago for breaching the Censorship Act after photos of one dance session were deemed by the censorship board to be “indecent”.
But with elections a year way, there will be fears that the new-look Censorship Board will also be used to clamp down on Zimbabwe’s vibrant social media, which doesn’t spare Mugabe and his government from robust criticism.
A report by the state broadcaster, the ZBC, gave a hint of that when it said: “The new board of censors… will have a mammoth task in carrying out its mandate as there has been rampant abuse of social media while also taking into consideration that general elections are set for next year.”

South African Doctors Successfully Transplant Penis - World's Third Success

JOHANNESBURG, May 24 (BERNAMA-NNN-AFRICANEWS) -- World's third penis transplant has been successfully performed on a 40-year-old man in South Africa by doctors from Stellenbosch University (SU) and the Tygerberg Academic Hospital in Cape Town.

This is the second successful penis transplant performed in South Africa after the first operation in December 2014 by the same team.

The 40-year-old recipient is reported to have lost his penis 17 years ago due to complications after traditional circumcision.

It took the doctors, led by Professor Andr van der Merwe, nine and a half hours to perform the transplant on April 21, local news portal Health24 reported.

"He is certainly one of the happiest patients we have seen in our ward. He is doing remarkably well There are no signs of rejection and all the reconnected structures seem to be healing well," Van der Merwe said.

Within six months, the recipient will regain full functions of his new organ which has a colour discrepancy because he is a black man and the donor is white.

"Unfortunately we could not find a donor of the same race. In this case the donor is white and the recipient is black," one of the team members Dr Amir Zarrabi told Health24, adding that the colour discrepancy will be later corrected with medical tattooing.

He expressed confidence that they will perform more successful transplants in the future.

"The loss of a penis from traditional circumcision is big, and we want to create sustainable programmes to help these people," he added.

The second penis transplant in the world was performed in May 2016 on a 64-year-old man at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston in the United States.

APC lists reasons Goodluck Jonathan’s presidency was “a total disaster”

By John Owen Nwachukwu

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has agreed with a statement credited to the governor of Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson that the six years of former President, Goodluck Jonathan was a total waste for Niger Delta people.
The party submitted various reasons why “Jonathan’s Presidency was similarly a total disaster for Rivers State and her people.”
This was part of a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the State Chairman of the party, Chief (Dr.) Davies Ibiamu Ikanya.
The statement reads in part, “Rivers APC aligned itself also with the historical statement credited to Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa – the home State of former President Jonathan – that his six years in Aso Rock was a waste for the Ijaw Nation.
“The party declared that Jonathan’s Presidency was similarly a total disaster for the Rivers State and her people for the following reasons: Jonathan failed to muster the courage and political will in a PDP-controlled National Assembly to see to the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) in the over six years of his administration to demonstrate his hatred for the Niger Delta region, knowing that communities in Rivers State will benefit from the bill.
“The East/West Road, especially Eleme-Onne axis in Rivers State, was abandoned and became a nightmare to travellers. He refused to refund to the State Government over 110 billion naira used in the dualisation of Ikwerre-Owerri Road approved by late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and other Federal Roads in the State executed by the State to ease the sufferings of the people of Rivers State.
“He wickedly stopped the Train 7 at NLNG Bonny, resulting in the loss of jobs to Rivers people and revenue to the State Government.
“Refused to implement the UNEP Report on the clean-up of Ogoni land despite all the pleas by our people and the International Community – just to punish the Ogonis and “Rivers State irrespective of their overwhelming support for him during the 2011 elections. Jonathan duly acknowledged that he has no project to point as was executed by his administration for the six years he was Abuja as President.
“Most wickedly, he ceded oil wells belonging to Rivers to Bayelsa and Abia states to ensure that the revenue accruing to the State is reduced to nothing.
“Abandoned construction of the Port Harcourt International Airport after completing other airports started at the same time with it.
“The airport was described as the worst sixth Airports in the world during Jonathan’s administration.
“Posting and encouraging the excesses of the tyrannical Police Commissioner Joseph Mbu during his inglorious days in the State.
“Supporting every imaginable act of impunity in the State, including the plot by five State Assembly members to impeach the Speaker in a House of 31 members.
“Seizing and grounding the planes of the State for no just cause.
“Harassing and intimidating the duly elected Governor of Rivers State then for no just cause and even supporting the splitting of the Governors’ Forum into two just to ensure that former Governor Amaechi, who was duly elected by his colleagues, did not have an easy reign as the Chairman of the Forum.
“Though what Rivers State suffered in the hands of Jonathan is so enormous we hand over his case and that of Wike to God to handle.”

Nigeria: Senate wants lower Naira notes changed to coins

Naira notes and coins [Photo credit: Oyibos OnLine]

The Central Bank of Nigeria should convert the country’s lower currency notes into coins to facilitate “highly repetitive” retail transactions, the Senate said Tuesday.
The advice came after a Senator spoke on the implications of rejection of the existing coin denominations for the economy.
“The local retailers keep rejecting the coins because commercial banks won’t accept them as deposit, even when they are reflected on paper, and the CBN still recognizes them as legal tender,” said Mustapha Bukar, the APC Senator representing Katsina South.
Given the rejection, plus the loss of value of the coins due to inflation, Mr. Bukar, therefore, suggested conversion of the the lower notes into coins to “cater for highly repetitive transactions” which “overwhelming majority” of Nigerians are engaged in due to “location and income”.
“Since the three coin denominations of 50 kobo, one kobo and 10 kobo have lost their values due to inflation, the conversion of lower currency notes to coins will facilitate retail transactions in the economy, like we have in developed countries,” the senator said.
“Despite the huge budget by the CBN on sensitising Nigerians on the need to accept coins, the transaction chains were broken and banks and customers reject the currency, thus, promoting corruption and escalating inflation to the extent of diminishing the value of the coins.”
Quoting unnamed “experts”, he said coin denominations were important in helping control devaluation of country’s currency. Taking an instance from the U.S.A, he said a reason why one cent had not phased out “is due to inflationary ramifications of such a move”.
He observed that coins were still being used in advanced countries, including the United Kingdom, Japan, the European Union and the United Arab Emirates, but lamented Nigeria has now become the only country in West Africa “where there is a total absence of the coins in the economy.”
“In Nigeria, there are two types of retail payments; the highly repetitive small value transactions, such as urban transportation, sweets, cigarettes, kola nuts, sachet water, vegetable etc., as well as, less frequent but high value transactions like clothing, footwear, raw foodstuff, electronics etc.
“Coin currencies are designed globally to cater for highly repetitive transactions because of the nature and conditions under which they happen, such as crowded markets, bus stations, congested traffic, and varying weather conditions, including rainy, sunny and humid conditions in which notes are ill-suited for them.
“Countries regularly upgrade their coinage to keep pace with the prices of this category of retail items,” Mr. Bukar explained.
Following the motion, the Senate, led by Ike Ekweremadu, resolved to urge the CBN to intensify efforts to bring coins back to the economy; and convert lower currency notes into coins to be used “side-by-side with the notes” to facilitate highly repetitive retail transactions in the country.
The Senate also urged the CBN to impose sanction on any commercial bank that rejects coins as deposit.
Nigeria’s current currency notes are: N5, N10, N20, N50, N100, N200, N500 and N1000.
Mr. Bukar did not mention exactly which ones he defined as “lower notes”.

ICYMI: Security agents discover church operated as sex club

Undercover inspectors have determined that a building registered as a church was being operated as a sex club.
WTVF-TV reports that the city of Nashville has filed a complaint against the owners for “maintaining a public nuisance by permitting acts of lewd conduct” and violating a state law banning sex clubs from operating within 1,000 feet of a school.
The longtime downtown swingers club underwent a conversion in 2015 when it relocated to a run-down office park in the community of Madison, calling itself a church because the new location is near the back of the private Goodpasture Christian School.
Two codes inspectors paid $40 to enter the facility in March and filed affidavits detailing sex acts they witnessed within.
The city is seeking to close the club.

Seventeen shot dead in mass jail break in Papua New Guinea

Prison warders shot dead 17 prisoners during a mass breakout in the city of Lae on Friday, media have reported. The jail has seen several such escapes in the past years, with many fatalities.
Seventeen prisoners making a dash for freedom from a prison in Papua New Guinea were shot dead by warders, reports said on Monday. A further 57 escapees are believed to be still at large.
The jail break took place in Buimo jail in the country's second largest city, Lae, but was not reported on publicly until Monday. The prison, which has been criticized in the past for overcrowding and poor conditions, has experienced at least one mass breakout every year since 2014.
The PNG Post-Courier and The National newspapers both said three other prisoners had been caught.
Call to surrender
"These are undesirable people and will be a threat to the community," Lae police commander Anthony Wagambie told the Post-Courier, speaking of the escapees.
He urged family members and friends of the escapees not to shelter them. "I am warning them that they will be caught. They must do what is good for them and surrender," he said.
Wagambie said many of the prisoners had been arrested last year for crimes such as armed robberies, car thefts and breaking and entering.
Twelve would-be escapees were shot dead and 18 injured last year at the prison when 94 escaped, while 55 men fled in 2015 and 44 the year before that.
Papua New Guinea has one of the highest crime rates in the world, with carjackings, gang rapes, assaults, armed robberies and the stoning of vehicles among the most frequent offenses. Extremely high unemployment, poverty and intertribal conflicts have been cited as factors.

Buhari’s health: Adeyemi criticises Tinubu’s position

Ramon Oladimeji

The Patron of Anti-Corruption Crusader, Prof. Tayo Adeyemi, has described as mere political ruse the call on Nigerians by a national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, to stop speculating about the health of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Adeyemi, who described Tinubu’s recent statement as belated and unnecessary, said it would have been better for the former governor of Lagos State to remain silent on the issue of Buhari’s health because he had failed to speak at the appropriate time and watched as the President was portrayed in bad light through sponsored media attacks.
The don said Tinubu’s statement was a failed attempt to pull the wool over the eyes of Nigerians that the relationship between him and Buhari was deteriorating.
He advised Tinubu “to refrain from playing on the intelligence of the educated class of Nigerians,” saying his nonchalance to the Buhari administration’s strides and efforts was already apparent.
Adeyemi said this in a statement made available to our correspondent on Sunday.
He recalled that Tinubu recently travelled to Borno State to commission some projects and on the occasion commended Governor Kashim Shettima while failing to praise Buhari as he did in his statement.
Adeyemi said, “Tinubu’s press statement has therefore unfortunately come too late as the political space has been contaminated by the undercurrents of anonymous sponsored articles in the media to portray Buhari in bad light by unidentifiable spin doctors and masters of propaganda normally used by political adventurers.
"Tinubu's nonchalance to the Buhari administration’s strides and effort has been undisputedly apparent.
“Public analysts, political observers, the educated class, the electorate and Nigerians in general have read between the lines and realised this press statement to be none other than a mere political ruse.
“The press statement is, therefore, a faux pas and totally unnecessary. It is a sign of weakness or guilt complex.
“It would have been more appropriate if the APC National Chairman-John Odie Oyegun, the Minister for Information or the Senate President had issued this sort of statement. It is out of place and irrelevant for Tinubu to issue this in his personal capacity.”

Nigerian killed as Cape Town club war rages on

Another shooting at a nightclub in Cape Town has claimed the life of a 26-year-old Nigerian.

Chimezie Oranusi was shot in Strand last Sunday‚ said Charles Ezeanozie‚ elder statesman for the Nigerian Union South Africa in the Western Cape.
He said Oranusi was in his car with a friend when gunmen forced their way in and opened fire. “He managed to drive with the bullet wounds for a few kilometres until he (crashed) his car‚ slumped over and died.”
The attackers did not demand anything so the motive for the shooting was unclear‚ he said. The woman in the vehicle was shot but survived.
Night club owners have pleaded for help from the City of Cape Town as their establishments become battlegrounds in an alleged escalating battle for control between protection syndicates.
The City of Cape Town mayoral committee member for safety and security‚ JP Smith‚ said two recent shootings and “brawls and skirmishes” between bouncers and “security guards” from rival protection rackets would take a toll on the local economy and tourist numbers.
“The city has been approached by numerous night club owners. They are concerned about what is going on and the lack of action by the state because they feel that these criminals are coming into places and intimidating them‚" he said.
“They are waging their wars inside their business premises and they are not seeing any action by the police or by the state and that’s making them very worried.”
Smith said that for club owners‚ “laying intimidation charges with the police is akin to signing death warrants”.
He added: “Eventually‚ if this is sustained or continued it will have a negative impact (on tourism). Over time it will destroy a part of the Cape Town scene and night-time economy. It will seriously erode the willingness of visitors‚ local and domestic‚ to visit these places.”
The violence in night clubs is believed to be connected to other shootings‚ including an attack last Monday on suspected gang leader Jerome “Donkie” Booysen and an incident in Elsies River on May 1 in which four people died.
Ezeanozie said they were aware of the club shootings. “We warned our nationals to keep safe from locations - especially those areas which are heating up including the clubs‚” he said.
The union is also concerned that in less than a month three Nigerians have been killed in Cape Town. “We are begging the minister of police to look into the murders as a serious concern‚” said Ezeanozie.
